Ave Maria – About the Artist
Guitarist David Barrett composes and styles music on multiple lutherian instruments; acoustic, electric, classical, resophonic, steel guitar, mandolin and laud. This recording of Ave Maria Guitar was played with a Takemine 6-string from 1978.
He has an ardent commitment to musical history which is, in turn, used to enrich his own compositions. His influences include Steve Howe, Pat Metheney, Tommy Emmanuel, Brian Eno, Jaco Pastorius, Les Paul and Chet Atkins. David is very well-respected by his peers and has made a deep impression on the Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association for which he holds the position of Director of Special Events. David's involvement within the music community certainly goes beyond jamming with the likes of Alex Lifeson, Tommy Emmanuel and Steve Howe, he has also volunteered as a coach for the League of Rock, a Toronto-based "rock school" along with Jim McCarty of the Yardbirds and Dan Clancy of Lighthouse.
David Barrett has played with such diverse acts as Platinum Blonde, Amanda Marshall and Esthero. He has also participated in "Classic Albums Live" series in which musicians create iconic records note for note and perform them live in theatres.
